About

Dancer/Performer, Fitness Professional and Healer, Candace Tabbs is a facilitator of movement-based practices including choreography, improvisation and movement as social justice for movers and thinkers of all ages and abilities. Candace explores the conversation between Modern, Hip Hop and dances of the African Diaspora and the presence of mind, body and spirit in dynamic expression. Her work has been shown at Danspace Project, Collective Thread, and Movement Research, among others. Recently, she received a 2019 Pepatián Dance Your Future Residency and premiered her first evening-length work coming toward at BAAD!. In a multidisciplinary evening of movement, poetry, song and visual art, coming toward calls upon ancestral guidance and works toward healing to unveil what becomes of us when the only way out is through.

Candace has worked and performed in concert and commercial dance with artists such as Ralph Lemon, Jamie Jackson, Donna Uchizono, Oren Barnoy, and Ephrat Asherie and teaching and performing with Joya Powell/Movement of the People Dance Company and Dances for a Variable Population. 

Sharing the power of exercise and healthy living with others as a fitness professional, Candace teaches a variety of classes from strength training, indoor cycling, cardio kickboxing and cardio dance. 

Candace earned her B.A. in Neuroscience and Behavior and minored in Dance at Barnard College. She has parlayed her critical and analytical approach to movement and wellness into supporting the voices and stories of authors as an editor and proofreader. 

As a Reiki practitioner, Candace provides healing experiences rooted in embodied listening to support the individual’s overall well-being.
